[The definitely-not-a-joint-birthday-party is already far and beyond anything anyone's ever done for Hinata's birthday in the past-- honestly, he's just shocked that anyone would've remembered his birthday, much less with how much things happen in Ryslig. Which is to say, they happen a lot. Watching the front desk was completely unneeded, but Nanami insisted, and he eventually gave up the argument.
But that doesn't mean he won't at least show up bright and early to the center, to check on both the building and Nanami both. The air outside is still cold and crisp, but it's almost refreshing, even if he just shows up in a jacket that is far too thin for the winter season. But, y'know, monster upsides and everything.
She's practically dead asleep by the time he shows up, and he can't help but feel a little bad about it; but he still smiles fondly at her where she can't see it, his expression soft as he gives her a gentle pat on the head at her sleepy, dreamy twitching and sniffling. Maybe he should grab one of the blankets from the sleep rooms, since it was pretty cold out, and pookas were warm-blooded... Though before he has a chance, as he places his own bag on the desk a foot or so away, he notices the little box.
...Well, he's mostly just curious, so he picks it up without really thinking about it, squinting and inspecting it for some kind of clue to its contents.]
[ In her dreams, she dreams of changing, though she doesn't know into what yet; her form shifting and molding, partly by her own choice and partly some outside force. She knows it's coming, she feels different, but--
And then the old dream again where she's sinking deep into Bavan Lake, as her tentacles twist into useless roots; and she can't breathe the water around her anymore, and she's choking, choking--
She wakes suddenly, coughing, hacking; and then a great sneeze, and another, and another-- several in a row until it finally comes to a stop. It still feels like there's something stuck in her throat, or her nose, or both; she can't smell very good.
She looks up. Hinata's holding the pink box, and looking at her. ] H-hi, Hinata-kun-- hhhkkk--
[ Oh that's gross. She scrambles under the desk for the tissues, and calls up in his direction. ] Those are for you!!
[ Rattling around inside the box are a set of four cupcakes, from a store that makes them in town - orange colored, and also flavored, too. ]
[He practically jumps out of his (non-existent) skin when Nanami wakes up, hacking and wheezing, causing him to splash as though someone had hopped into a puddle. But he manages to not fumble or crush the box in his hands when he's been caught with it.]
O-Oh...? Thanks... [Admittedly it did smell pretty good? But, more importantly--!!]
Are you okay? Do you need some water? [He gently places the box back on the desk, placing his hands against the surface so he could lean over a bit and see if Nanami was alright.] I-I can get you a bucket or a trash can or something if you're gonna be sick....!
[ She's sleepy and a bit stuffed up. She feels terrible, to be honest. But she doesn't want to worry Hinata.
She returns from under the desk with the tissue box, blowing her nose ineffectually. After several attempts to clear the blockage, she sighs and rests her head on the desk. ]
S'just changes, probably... I just gotta get through it... [ Maybe the late night didn't help, but she feels absolutely the worst. Her breathing is wet and rattly. ]
[He frowns, standing back up straight when she at least... stops coughing??? Though 'changes,' and the supernatural congestion doesn't exactly put him at ease. As far as he knows she may throw up her entire skeleton and become a lich. Or something. That was not how liches work--]
What's Mana turning you into now? [That's also not how it worked but he's going to say it like that anyway.] You know some changes can be pretty painful, so if you wanna go home and rest... I can even stop by Insert Coin and check on things today. Y'know, fair is fair.
Mm-mm! [ She shakes her head violently. It's a sweet offer, and on any other day maybe she'd take him up on it (but then again, maybe not - she knows how busy he usually is, and doesn't want to inconvenience him) -- but today... ]
It's your birthday! I'll be fine-- [ Another massive sneeze, into the tissue she's holding this time; there's a bit of reddish liquid that looks to light to be blood. ]
I-- hfff-- [ Why does breathing feel so hard? She swallows a thick lump in her throat. ] I don't know what it'll be yet-- I just asked for something inorg--
[ She tries to take another labored breath, but she can't. Something's stopping her. Her eyes go very wide as she gags, gripping the desk - whatever's keeping her from breathing, filling her lungs, is rising in her throat now too. ]
